How is using Stayawhile different than other online marketplaces?

Many online marketplaces list a variety of places (private homes, rooms, shares) which are managed by many different kinds of hosts. Stayawhile is consistent across many geographies. All apartments are fairly similar in size and amenities. They are furnished in a nearly identical manner and consistently managed in accordance with the same standards.

Who is this for?

Stayawhile is for anybody who needs flexibility in a living place and does not want to endure the hassle of finding and setting up the perfect place.

Is there housekeeping?

Yes, monthly housekeeping is included in the price. All Stayawhiles are given a deep clean before a new member moves in. Additional cleanings can be arranged for an additional charge.

Is this like a timeshare?

No. Timeshares are a long-term commitment where a person owns a fractional interest in a property entitling them to use a property at specific times of the year. The person is charged ongoing maintenance fees for upkeep. Timeshares are also complicated to unwind and sell. Stayawhile does require members to pay monthly membership dues, but otherwise it is a pay-as-you-go model. Members only pay usage fees for the days that they use. There is no long-term commitment.

Is this co-living?

No. All Stayawhiles are studio apartments with private bathrooms and private kitchens. This is flexible living for adults who require privacy and comfort.

What is included in the price?

The price includes wifi, utilities and all applicable taxes. However, we ask that you keep your use of electricity to a reasonable amount. We ask that you turn off air conditioning and lights when you leave your apartment, just as you would do in your own home. We reserve the right to collect an additional fee if your electricity bill exceeds a normal amount.

Why is Stayawhile for members only?

Stayawhile is for members only because we verify applicants in order to ensure that they are going to be reliable, law-abiding, non-disruptive residents of the buildings where our Stayawhiles are located.

Stayawhile does not discriminate (ever!) on the basis of race, creed, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, height, weight, physical or mental ability, veteran status, military obligations, or marital status.

Why do you perform credit checks and background checks?

We screen to make sure that our members do not have a past history of evictions, criminal activity, or disruptive complaints. We screen our members annually to ensure that we have the most updated information and credit data. Because we rigorously screen our members, landlords allow us to locate Stayawhiles in prime buildings in major cities around the world.

We are able to assure other building residents that their new neighbors are responsible people who will not cause trouble. To be clear, we never ever share the information obtained through these screenings with any third parties.

Why are there minimum lengths of stay?

Different cities have different housing laws. In New York City, the minimum length of stay at a Stayawhile is 30 days because New York City’s legislation is designed to protect residential buildings from becoming transient hotels. Since most Stayawhiles are located in residentially-zoned buildings, they are subject to a minimum stay of 30 days. In other cities, Stayawhiles may be available for shorter periods of time.

What’s the cancellation policy for bookings?

Reservations cancelled at least 6 weeks prior to the first date of the Reservation are not subject to a cancellation fee. Reservations cancelled fewer than 6 weeks prior to the first date of the Reservation are subject to a cancellation fee. The first 4 weeks of the Reservation will be charged.

What is the cancellation policy for memberships?

Memberships may be cancelled at any time upon 15 days’ notice by sending an email to simone@stayawhile.com

May I share a membership?

Kind of. You may name a guest (like a spouse, partner or a friend) who may share your membership with you, but you must always accompany that person. He or she may not book stays using your account. Stayawhile and our affiliates may request government-issued photo ID at any time in order to verify the identity of our members.

Company Policies
Are there blackout dates?

There are no blackout dates per se, but all Stayawhile properties are subject to availability. There will be specific dates and times of the year when it may be difficult to reserve a Stayawhile in a certain city.

May I move my own furniture into a Stayawhile?

You may not move your own furniture into a Stayawhile. Stayawhiles are all fully furnished, but you may bring with you whatever you can hand carry yourself into the apartment.

May I hang art on the walls or paint them?

You may not damage the walls of a Stayawhile with nails or glue. You may not paint the walls of a Stayawhile either. Failure to follow these rules will result in having your membership privileges revoked. Additional information about charges for damage can be found in the membership agreement.

May I bring my pet to a Stayawhile?

Each Stayawhile has a different pet policy. Pet-friendly Stayawhiles are indicated. Different locations permit different species (i.e. cat, dog, fish, etc) and some even prohibit specific sizes and/or breeds. In addition, certain properties may require additional fees when you bring your pet.

May children stay with me in a Stayawhile?

Yes. However, Stayawhile properties comfortably sleep two people and do not have cribs or child beds. Please bear this in mind.
