At Stay Awhile, Christmas is one of the first weeks our Malibu calendar fills, and it is easy to see why. December on this coast is mild, bright and quiet. The summer crowds are gone and the afternoon sun is still warm on the sand. You can spend Christmas morning barefoot and Christmas night by the fire, in the same house, without leaving the beach.

Christmas in Malibu is really a question of the house. What follows is not a list of things to do. It is six homes from our Malibu collection that we would choose for the holiday ourselves, and what Christmas 2026 feels like inside each one.

Christmas Morning on Broad Beach, at The Surf Lodge

The Surf Lodge sits right on Broad Beach, the quiet end of Malibu, and it is built for a big family Christmas. Six bedrooms, five bathrooms and room for fourteen guests means the grandparents and the cousins all fit under one roof.

The living room is the heart of it. Floor to ceiling windows bring the Pacific inside, and a stone fireplace keeps the room warm on cool December nights. The chef’s kitchen is ready for Christmas dinner.

After dark, the hot tub and the fire pit take over, and private beach access means the morning walk starts at the bottom of the steps.

When the Guest List Keeps Growing, There Is Paraíso

Paraíso is the house for the Christmas where everyone said yes. Set directly on Broad Beach and completed in 2022, it spreads across a main residence and a guest house, with seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms and room for up to fourteen guests. One note we always share: the seventh room is set up in the guest house on request, so tell our team before you book if you need it.

The chef’s kitchen runs on a full Gaggenau suite, with multiple bars and ocean view dining for the big meal. The family room theater is where Christmas movies belong. Outside, a courtyard pool with spa features and a fire pit sits beside a beachside deck with a 40 foot infinity edge pool right above the sand.

A Fireside Christmas Above the Water at Miramar Estate

If your idea of Christmas is a crackling fire and a view, Miramar Estate is the one. This single level home sits on a private acre on the bluff in the MariSol community, with panoramic ocean, island and mountain views, and it sleeps ten.

The 60 foot great room has a fireplace and wide ocean views. Both primary suites, set in separate wings, have their own fireplaces too. The double island kitchen with Wolf and Miele appliances and a walk-in pantry is made for a holiday feast, with a wine room and a home theater for the slow evenings.

Outside, the heated in-ground hot tub, the infinity edge pool and a covered pavilion with a large fireplace and barbecue island carry Christmas outdoors. The bluff top deck is a good place to watch for whales with a coffee in hand.

Christmas With Your Feet in the Sand at Malibu Yacht Club

Malibu Yacht Club is a gated, oceanfront estate on a rare double lot, with direct access to the sand. Five bedrooms, six bathrooms and room for ten guests, plus a separate round glass guest house for anyone who wants a little space.

Walls of glass open onto wide beachfront decks. This is also the home for a restful holiday: a private gym, sauna, steam room and spa are all on site, which is our favorite way to spend Boxing Day. A fireplace and hot tub round out the long winter evenings.

A Smaller Christmas, With a Hollywood Story, at The Getaway

The Getaway was once the Malibu home of Steve McQueen. This oceanfront Cape Cod house has five bedrooms, five bathrooms and room for ten guests, with direct beach access.

The great room has a minimalist fireplace and panoramic ocean views. The chef’s kitchen with a stone topped island sits right next to a dining area that looks out over the Pacific, which is exactly where Christmas dinner should happen. Upstairs, the primary suite has its own modern fireplace, a soaking tub and a balcony for sunset. On the deck, a fire pit and hot tub face the water.

Eight Stockings Above Zuma at Surfside Malibu

For a smaller family or a group of friends, Surfside Malibu has a lot of magic in three bedrooms. It sits in an enclave above Zuma Beach, with three bathrooms and room for eight guests.

The great room has 20 foot ceilings and disappearing glass walls, and a double sided fireplace warms both the living and dining areas at once. The primary suite has a double sided fireplace of its own and a freestanding soaking tub. Outside, there is a zero edge infinity pool, a hot tub, a courtyard with a fire feature and a private rooftop terrace for Christmas morning coffee.

Everything Taken Care Of, So You Can Simply Be There

Every Stay Awhile villa comes with concierge service. The request we suggest most for the holidays is a private chef, who builds a menu around your family and cooks it in your kitchen, so Christmas dinner arrives without anyone missing the day. In-villa spa treatments are there for the slower days after.

Getting here is just as simple. Through Drive Awhile, Stay Awhile guests get preferred rates on luxury vehicles delivered to the villa with the keys inside, plus LAX pickup and drop off and a private driver for dinners out. For anyone who wants to stay through New Year’s, our monthly stays are open to stays of thirty nights or longer: pick the home and your dates, make an offer, and we reply personally, usually within one business day.

Browsing by feature? Start with our beachfront homes or homes with a spa or hot tub. Heading inland for a day? Our guides to Christmas in Beverly Hills and things to do in Los Angeles for Christmas cover the city side.

Wake Up to the Pacific on Christmas Morning

A beach Christmas in Malibu is quiet, golden and entirely yours: the fire lit, the ocean outside, nowhere you need to be. December dates are the first we book each year, and the larger homes go first, so the earlier you choose, the more of the coast you have to choose from.

Our concierge team will plan the rest, from a private chef for Christmas dinner to a car waiting when you land.

Find Your Christmas Home

Before You Book Your Malibu Christmas

Is Malibu a good place to visit in December? Yes. December is one of the calmest months on the Malibu coast. The summer crowds are gone, the beaches are quiet, and the days are usually mild and sunny. It is also the start of gray whale season.

What is the weather in Malibu at Christmas? Mild and mostly dry. Daytime highs are usually in the mid 60s, and nights cool down into the 40s and 50s. Warm enough for a beach walk, cool enough for a fire at night.

Which Malibu rentals have a fireplace? All six homes in this guide have one. Miramar Estate has fireplaces in the great room and both primary suites, Surfside Malibu has two double sided fireplaces, and The Getaway has fireplaces in the great room and the primary suite. The Surf Lodge, Paraíso and Malibu Yacht Club all have a fireplace too.

Which Malibu home is best for a large family Christmas? The Surf Lodge and Paraíso both sleep up to fourteen guests on Broad Beach. Miramar Estate, Malibu Yacht Club and The Getaway each sleep ten.

How far in advance should I book a Malibu home for Christmas? As early as you can. Christmas and New Year’s are the first dates to book in Malibu, and the large oceanfront homes are always the first to go.

Can you stay in Malibu for the whole holiday season? Yes. Stays of thirty nights or longer are open across the collection, so you can cover Christmas through New Year’s and beyond. Choose a home, share your dates and make an offer through the monthly stays page.
